Funkie Junkie 12 Tags Of Christmas - Week Two

Week two of Funkie Junkie's 12 tags of Christmas - bit behind already seeing as Linda is already on week 5! But I'll cram in some more posts and see if I can catch up a bit....

I can't wait to see them all hanging up at Christmas!

If you want to see the original tag then click here - Obviously I was inspired by the reindeer and the stars...I also loved the pastel colour scheme and delicate stamping...though I really struggle with delicate stamping - mine tends to be much heavier handed.

Linda used Distress Stains....Frayed Burlap and Picket Fence. I had Frayed Burlap but I didn't have Picket Fence - However I do have Picket Fence Distress Paint. I have no idea if you are meant to combine stains and paints...but it did seem to have a weird separation effect on the Frayed Burlap DS....it seemed to 'curdle' slightly and tones of blue and pink began to appear....I had smooshed them both over the craft mat, given it a spritz of Biscotti pearls and after wiping the tag through it I was getting a 'mother-of-pearl' effect.

I really liked this so I carried on. A light dabbing of Vintage Photo DI around the edges added warmth to the tag. I used Watering Can Archival ink to stamp some script and flourishes around the tag.

I don't have the reindeer or star shapes....so I decided to use some tracing paper and I traced the images directly from the tag on the computer screen and used these as templates to cut the items out by hand.

The reindeer was triple embossed with gold embossing powder and stamped with a script stamp while still soft.A piece of twine was tied around its neck.

The stars were painted with Vintage Lace Fresco paint then stamped with a script stamp in Watering can archival ink. I then covered the stars with Clear Rock Candy distress stickles dry glitter..

A piece of pale beige burlap style material topped the tag and I dabbed the edges with White fire treasure gold to give a gorgeous metallic sheen. I also brushed a little Treasure Gold over the glitter...which really adds to the sparkle!

Why not join in with this challenge too...just make something inspired by each tag and you could be in with a chance to win $50 to spend at the Funkie Junkie Boutique

Hope you enjoyed seeing my version of Tag 2! Hope you come back to see the rest...!

I would like to enter this into the following challenge -

  1. Oh my Laura, this came out wonderful! I can't believe that you traced the deer and cut it out. It came out fantastic - what a clever crafter you are! I love your background colors too. It looks like the stains and paint mixed perfectly. Terrific take on Tag #2 - so happy to have you playing along with me this year!

    Hugs,
    Linda

  4. I love that effect with the stains and the paint - how serendipitous! You're right it does have a gorgeous mother-of-pearl impression. How clever of you to create the deer that way - I was sure that it was a die-cut until I read your account. A lovely, festive tag! Julie Ann xx

  6. This is gorgeous Laura. I don't think it matters what your tag uses/looks like as long as you have taken inspiration from Linda. That is why I like this challenge! That mother of pearl effect is gorgeous.
