Who is the fairest of them all?

Hi everyone!

Today I would like to show you a tag I made for one of my favourite challenges - Frilly and Funkie. Their latest challenge is called "What's your poison?" - and of course it is Halloween based....

I am well and truly caught up in the Halloween mood - perhaps it is a good thing I haven't been feeling very well...otherwise you would have been having dozens of Halloween posts clogging up your inboxes and readers.

Frilly and Funkie ask that we focus on green and black with absolutely NO orange...Ok with me! I love orange as a Halloween colour but I can manage without.....so ideas started to bounce around...first with the word 'Poison'....

The first thing I thought of was 'Poisoned Apple', which of course is Snow White...but that isn't Halloween. Then I thought about focusing on the Mirror and the evil queen....perhaps I feature her as a skull? Then I can make a tag that is a Halloween one, but with a slight fairytale twist?

I made this on mount board as I wanted it to be sturdy. I had an image in my head of lots of texture and layers, lots of green with a hint of black. I began by dabbing texture paste in two corners of the tag. I then applied Gesso all over as a base. A strip of Tim Holtz tissue paper was glued to the center (sadly lost amongst paint and decoration) but the wrinkled texture is still there.

I then blended Hey Pesto and Guacamole Fresco paint all over the tag. When dry I brushed it all over with White Fire Treasure Gold to highlight all the texture. I added some tissue tape to the tag and dabbed it with Bundled Sage DS. Then I stamped cobwebs all over with Black Archival ink.

The mirror frame was made by cutting an oval out of embossed card. The 'mirror' part was card covered in Pumice Stone DI and then the skull was attached after being stamped in Black archival ink and embossed. Around the skull I painted French Roast Fresco paint.

The embossed mirror frame was painted in Gold Fresco paint then covered with a light coat of the transparent French Roast (which ages stuff beautifully). Then when dry I blended White Fire treasure Gold over the frame to highlight the embossed texture.

The 'Mirror Mirror' words were stamped onto tissue paper, then applied to a die cut. Then they were painted with Hey Pesto Fresco paint and edged with Black Soot DI.

The tree was a die cut that was inked with Black soot....I thought this would be a good place to hang up the apple -

.........which was made with a bright red glass bead, a length of rusty wire pushed through and secured at the top after attaching a tiny die cut leaf that had been painted with Hey Pesto Fresco paint.

I placed a piece of tissue tape saying 'Poison' by the mirror - hopefully warning Snow White of the danger!

Happy Halloween was stamped in Black archival ink and embossed, then covered in Peeled Paint DS and torn then edged with Black Soot DI.

An ornate metal decoration tops the tag

..........and there is my 'What's your Poison?' tag......

I really enjoyed making this tag - Hope you like it!

         See you soon....
