Tim's Tags

Hi everyone!

This is a first for me - Making one of Tim's Tags...I had always seen them before but never did any because I didn't own any of the items! I know I could use other items but I always wanted it to be linked to Tim's original tag in some way - but with my own interpretation.

This time, for the first time ever, I looked at the instructions and thought - "I have that, got one of those but in a different colour, got some of those, I don't have that but I do have something similar....." and before I knew it I was sitting down and making the tag....and I had a lovely time doing it!

This tag was based on learning about the new stencils....and luckily mine arrived in the post that day! I only had three (well, you have to start somewhere and three is better than none) so I couldn't do lots of different layers but I decided to give it a go...

I started by using texture paste on the clockwork stencil in opposite corners of the tag. Since the others I own are Burlap and Dot fade, I thought clockwork would provide the most dramatic image for the paste.

I decided as I had most but not all of the items I would change the colour scheme slightly and I chose autumn colours. I picked up Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade and Tarnished Brass DS and smooshed them all over the tag very randomly...I decided not to think about it - just go for it. I spritzed with water that had some Mica Powder in and dried it with the heat gun, moving the tag around to blend the colours.

I then got the Burlap Stencil and in the opposite corners to the clocks, I stencilled Vintage Photo DI. Then I used the Dot stencil and dabbed Vintage Photo DP using a sponge. In the center of the tag I applied Picket Fence DP with a sponge.

I used some Tim Holtz stamps and stamped the butterflies in one corner using Potting Soil Archival ink and the text was randomly dabbed around the tag with the same archival ink.

I chose two Chit-Chat stickers that seemed to be appropriate for this tag....it isn't perfect, there are a few things I wished hadn't happened, but the most important thing was fun and learning! So I am embracing imperfection! - I really am!...I decided after doing this tag that I would try again - try to make it better...but of course with the second I tried too hard, thought about it too much and it was....terrible!...This tag was far better, it has it's little errors, but if you compare the two, this one is by far the better tag - sometimes imperfection is better

I didn't have the Distress marker to draw around the words so I improvised with a soft lead pencil and smudged it.

I chose a brad to attach to the top of the card with paper ribbon and raffia.

A pen nib stained with Espresso alcohol ink was added....Yes, I know the word on the pen is the wrong way up but remember - I am embracing imperfection...and I wanted the pen to face that way!

I hope you like my first ever Tim Tag....I loved making it!

Thanks so much for being here - Hope to see you again soon!

Love that you used potting soil archival ink. I didn't even know there was a potting soil one, so funny... must get me that one, as a gardener I think I can't do without =).

  16. Congratulations on your win! I, too, don't have Distress Markers. I did something similar, though, by using a water brush and some black soot and tracing around an element. Not exactly the same, but it worked. Thank you for sharing!
