It's all about Fashion
Hello Everyone!
I am here today to squeeze in one last post before September...I was given a fantastic set of Graphic 45 papers for my birthday in June (A Ladies' Diary Collection) and I was so happy with them. Gorgeous vintage fashion - beautiful papers - almost seemed a shame to use them (yes I know there are some fellow paper hoarders out there!)
My daughter is a bit of a fashion fan. Actually to say 'a bit' is quite an understatement. She is totally completely and utterly fascinated with Fashion. She wants to be a dress designer when she grows up and she is passionate about vintage costumes. So I thought these papers would be ideal to make something for her and I decided to make a book. Something to inspire her and also a wish from me that she never loses sight of her dreams......
I cut out several pages for the book from ivory card. To decorate the cover I painted the sides with Old Gold Fresco Paint and then covered with crackle glaze. When that was dry I painted it with Nougat Fresco Paint and watched the crackles magically appear.
I then dry brushed some Chocolate Pudding Fresco paint around the edges
Then I cut out several pieces from the papers to decorate the pages. I used various sewing themed stamps using Potting Soil Archival ink (my latest favourite). A few dabs here and there of Vintage Photo DI added a lovely vintage shabby look.
I punched holes in the edges of each page and attached all the pages together with rusty wire bended into rings. I collected up some ribbony bits and some metal charms and other dressmaking related treats. I wound some embroidery cotton around a mini cotton reel and chose a mother-of-pearl button as well as scissors and sewing machine.
For the cover I selected several gorgeous pictures and buttons. These were added to a torn piece of book paper that had been painted with watered down Snowflake Fresco Paint and inked with Vintage Photo DI. Two words from the chit-chat stickers were inked with Vintage Photo DI and two pins were pushed through some lace.
Hope you like this mini Vintage Fashion book! My daughter certainly did! ;o)
Thanks so much for being here! See you in September!

Laura - you take my breath away with your talent! I just went back to look at other things you have done and your paintings are incredible. You are an incredible Mother and the book you made for Annie is grand - I know she loves it!! I also know she will reach her goals. I have to go back and give this a good look again.

Oh my goodness Laura, I saw this in my post and started to look, then I had to fly over here to see it BIG.. This is a treasured heirloom you have created for her,I can stop looking at it, the love is singing all over the pages... You are the best Mom and a freaking amazing artist. The papers are gorgeous, but how you have incorporated them in that book is awe-inspiring, still looking :O) That crackling, perrrrfect, those rusted rings, brilliant, then every page is just gorgeous, now all those bits and bob hanging, perrrrrfect ... I have enjoyed seeing your amazing art work, it's been a pleasure, hope you have a wonderful weekend, you certainly made mine, big hugs......

No wonder your daughter loved this! It will certainly inspire her. My daughter had a dream of being a fashion designer too! She is nineteen now and just about to enter her second year at Art School studying - guess what - Fashion! She is on her way to her dreams, but she still needs lots of encouragement. Your book has inspired me...now it's her birthday in October. I'm putting on my thinking cap right now! Thank you for sharing and inspiring as you always do, Laura! Julie Ann xx
