Magical Moments

Hi everyone

At Our Creative Corner we have a new challenge for you!
Kerstin is hosting the challenge this month and her challenge is called -

It's Magic

Photographs can tell amazing stories of specific places or unforgettable moments in nature.
For this challenge use a favourite photograph and add some special colours, moods and effects.
Put these ingredients together in a vintage style and share your creative story with us.
Especially suitable are classical scrapbook layouts (30 x 30) or canvases in mixed media style but you can also make cards or tags (as long as your project includes a magic nature photograph).

Note: if you don't like scrapbooking or are no photographer, the focal image can also be replaced by a cut out (or transferred) nature photograph from a postcard or magazine for example.

**************************************************************

I wanted to use a photo I had taken and, after hunting through many photo files and finding no nature photographs, I decided to take my camera outside and see what I could find. Luckily it was a very warm day and, while I was sitting next to some flowers, a bee was hovering around....as it carried on working I quickly snapped a few photos and I had the shot for the layout.

I wanted to create my background for this layout rather than use a patterned paper. I wasn't sure how it would go, so I decided to think less and work fast...I grabbed some inks, sprays, stamps etc and got to work....

First I sprayed the sheet of paper with several inks...I used Sunshine Yellow Dylusions spray and then added some After Midnight Dylusions spray to a homemade pale pink ink spray (that I have totally forgotten what it is) and then I spritzed it all with water

When dry I began to add the stencils - I used a leaf, lattice, chicken wire and dots stencils randomly across the page using Gathered Twigs, Dusty Concord and Wild Honey DI's

Then I began to add some stamping using Potting Soil Archival ink

I also stamped using Picket Fence DP on a dots stamp

Tissue tape was added....

Then I placed the photo in place. I noticed that the black background of the photograph looked too stark for this layout, so I decided to cut out the flowers. I blended some Gathered Twigs DI around the edges to add some shading.

A strip of lace was added and a metal corner decoration was dabbed with Picket fence DP

White paper flowers were spritzed with Sunshine Yellow Dylusions sprays and stamped with a flourish stamp. A wooden button was painted with Picket Fence DP that had been mixed with a little Seedless Preserves DI

Ivory hemp string was wound around the page and attached in places with a tiny blob of glue. Little pearls stickers were attached.

Chit chat stickers were edged with Wild Honey DI

The entire layout was given a final delicate mist of White Linen Dylsuisons spray....

And there is my 'It's Magic Layout....

Hope you will come along and join us this month at Our Creative Corner!

Whatever the Weather

Hello everyone!

I am here to show you my creation for the new challenge over at Fashionable Stamping Challenges -

'Weather Forecast'

Rainy days, Autumn sunshine, Frosty snowfall....whatever the weather, we would love to see your creations over at Fashionable Stamping Challenges......

First I coloured the tag with some wrinkle free distress technique using Frayed Burlap and
 Pumice Stone DI's.

I then stamped some snowflakes and script in Frayed Burlap DI and Potting Soil Archival ink

I got out some Artistic Outpost stamps for this tag - I stamped the snow scene using Potting Soil
Archival ink.

The quote was stamped onto white card with Potting Soild archival ink and then edged with
Frayed Burlap DI.

Then I dabbed some matte multi medium over the snow and sprinkled on some
Rock Candy Distress Glitter.

I then spritzed the whole tag with Perfect Pearls Glimmer mist in Biscotti.

I dabbed some PVA glue onto the bottom of the tag and sprinkled on some Stampendous Shaved Ice.

Brown hemp string was tied into a bow and a brass button was used to
decorate the top of the tag.

Hope you like it! Why not come and play along with us at Fashionable Stamping Challenges!

Couture Creation

Welcome back!

Today I am here to show you my creation for Sandee and Amelie's Steampunk challenge! This month the challenge is called.....

Steampunk Couture

Any kind of sewing themed, dress themed, fashion themed,
couture themed Steampunk creation will fit in.

My creation began with finding a mannequin die cut in my scrap bin. I had begun to decorate it ages ago and it hadn't worked for the creation I had in mind then. I had spent ages struggling with it and eventually I gave up and moved in another direction and this mannequin, with the purple frilly corset dress, went into the scrap bin and I doubted it would see the light of day again

And then the Steampunk Couture challenge arrived! and how perfect was this mannequin for it? I don't like purple very much in crafting and it is a colour I very rarely use (perhaps it was that colour choice that had made this not work before?)....but this seemed to work perfectly now with the bronze rustic tones of the steampunk embellishments.

I used a piece of cardboard, ripped pieces off and then began to stick music sheet tissue to the card with matte multi medium. Then I brushed some watered down gesso over it.

I then used a stencil and blended some Dusty Concord DI over the cardboard and blended some Tumbled Glass DI in some areas too. I also spritzed some espresso Dylusions sprays onto the background

Various sewing stamps were stamped around the edges using Potting Soil Archival ink and I dabbed around the edges with Vintage Photo DI

The mannequin had been painted with Stone Fresco paint and was then covered with Crackle glaze and walnut stain DI rubbed over it to enhance the crackle

.
The corset was stamped onto card in Jet Black archival ink and then embossed. The corset was then painted with Dusty Concord DS. Tiny gears were stuck to the corset along with a bronze button decoration

White lace was dabbed with Dusty Concord DS and then when dry was stuck onto the mannequin in layers to form the skirt. An organza ribbon was stained with Dusty Concord DS and tied into a bow.

The words 'create the look' were chosen from chit chat stickers and edged with Vintage Photo DI and stuck to the corset of the dress.

Various decorations were used at the base of the mannequin including buttons, lace and metal flowers

A piece of cotton ribbon was added across the bottom of the hanger

Bronze Hinge fasteners were used with rusty wire as a hanger

And here is the finished Steampunk Couture Creation.......

I hope you like it!...and I do hope you will come over to see what the rest of the team have made and share your Steampunk Couture with us! Hope to see you there!

Artistic Playtime

Hello everyone!

I am here to show you my creation for the new challenge over at Fashionable Stamping Challenges -

'Anything Goes'

Don't we always love 'Anything Goes'?

I am showing you a tag today that I made with some Artistic Outpost stamps....Obviously as this was an 'Anything Goes' challenge it gave me a chance to have some 'Artistic Playtime'.......

I got a tag and blended Evergreen Bough DI over it. I used a stencil on sections of the tag.

I also spritzed some Dylusion inks over the tag and did some spritzing with water...

I added some strips of tissue tape

I covered a piece of card with various tissue tapes and added a stamped and cut out image of a young boy.

I used a text stamp using DI's and Archival ink to add depth to the tag

A twine bow was added to the top of the tag

A quote was stamped onto card that had been inked with Evergreen Bough DI and then sanded to distress the edges

Hope you like it! Why not come and play along with us at Fashionable Stamping Challenges!
Remember we are a stamping challenge so please feature a stamped focal image on your creation.
