Birthday Butterfly

Hi everyone! A very rare card this time at Laurart!

I don't make cards. I used to, years ago, long before I found ink and stamps. And now I actually find it quite tricky and even when I do make one it never looks very good to my eyes. This one is for a very special person's birthday...I won't say who...The colour scheme and subjects (and title of the post) will give you a huge clue as to who celebrated her birthday last month!

I decided to just go with her favourite colour combination, and things she loves and it was certainly inspired by her layering style that she does so superbly...

I started by using Gathered Twigs and Faded Jeans DI mixed with some Frayed Burlap DP on a craft mat and spritzing with water. Swirling the card in this and dabbing and drying until I liked the effect. When dry I used a memorybox stencil and used Picket Fence DP through it.

I darkened the edges of the card with Gathered Twigs DI and then began stamping.

I used a Inkylicious stamp of a butterfly in Potting Soil Archival ink

....and then used an Artistic Outpost Music stamp that had been dabbed with both Potting Soil and Cornflower Blue.

I then used a script stamp that had the same mix used with it.

I used a punch to make some butterflies from wax paper that had been stamped with the same music stamp in Jet Black archival ink and then embossed with Frosted Crystal Antiquities embossing powder. The edges of the butterflies were dabbed with Walnut Stain DI.

The 'Happy Birthday' was stamped in Potting Soil Archival ink onto card that had been covered with Gathered Twigs and Faded Jeans DI.

The card base was stamped with the music stamp again using potting Soil Archival ink and the card was dabbed around the edge with Walnut Stain DI.

Hope you like it! Thanks so much for visiting - hope to see you again soon!

  4. Well I think this card looks fantastic!! Great colours and so beautifully put together! That Inkylicious stamp happens to be one of my all time favourites and I love how you altered it with the Happy Birthday, very clever and one to remember! Whoever gets this is one lucky person!

  5. I agree with Astrid! It seems that quite a few crafters start with card making and then move on and return to it only to be disappointed with their card creations. I feel just the same! This - though - is perfect in itself and perfect for the person I think you might have created it for! I love those waxy paper butterflies and your colour scheme is perfection. Most importantly this is a beautifully composed card. It is a card to be proud of and I'm sure it will be cherished! Julie Ann xxx
