Whiter shade of pale

Hello everyone! My craft today is the colour of the weather - WHITE!!!!

I was on my blog travels being nosey curious, peeking at other peoples work when I landed at Our Creative Corner. Their challenge this week is white...everything white, with the exception of the sentiment. My first thought was the usual "I can't do that!" - but I was looking through the DT work and as always they are so inspirational - I got more confidence and decided to rummage through my craft stuff and see what white stuff I had - at that time I wasn't very hopeful!........

I did manage to find several white buttons (that I didn't even know I had) and in my bead collection there were some pearls. Well that is a start at least...Oh, and I did have white card....

My sister-in-law Alison came to the rescue (as she always does) and I chose some of her embossed and die cutting images. I left with a collection of wonderful embossed backgrounds and die cuts of flowers and lace, along with some lovely white roses (which didn't get used on this project but they will appear at some point).... ;o)

So here is my white tag......

I cut a piece of white card to my usual tag size....I wanted to use one of the embossed frames but it was too wide so I came up with the idea of having it as panels down the sides.

I used one of my favourite Tim Holtz quote stamps....and stamped it in Pumice stone DI and tore around the edge of it.

This was one of the gorgeous buttons I found...a little bit of bling. I did have some rhinestones attached to silver wire but discarded the idea of attaching them as it was too much sparkle.

I attached the die cut lace edging along the bottom of the tag. Then I decorated some of the die cut flowers with buttons and some had brads attached. These were silver brads that I painted white with acrylic paint. I know some silver was allowed in this challenge and perhaps silver would have added some extra detail but I really wanted it to be totally white and clean looking. I then glued some pearls around the flowers.......

I made a little bead decoration with pearls and crystal beads and silver wire. I formed the end into a loop which attached to the ribbon at the top of the tag.

The 'ribbon' attached to the tag was actually the edge of an old lace curtain. I had a length of daisy shaped ribbon and I tied this around the bow and weaved it through the loops of the bow.

The White Tag! I loved making this...I found myself habitually reaching for the Antique Linen DI several times thinking "Oh I'll just give this an inked edge" before remembering that it was not allowed.
It was certainly a challenge to abandon colour totally and I was worried that I wouldn't have enough interesting detail or that I would end up over compensating and cramming the tag with too much to make up for no colour....I do hope I got the balance right and that you all like it...

Thank you for being with me as I continue my journey through exploring different crafts. Please leave a comment for me if you arrive here on your travels through blogland. I would love to know you visited.

I am entering this in the following challenge -

  1. Wow, that's amazing, when you think of white, you think of quite bland with little detail, but this is totally opposite to those thoughts. You've made a stunning tag with loads of intricate details, and it's not overdone at all. We love it.

  2. Well I for one am beyond impressed! What seemed like it began as a hurdle turned into the most detailed, ornate and beautifully crafted piece of art. The fact that you took the time to paint silver brads with white acrylic paint awes me!! A wonderfully written post filled with lovely pictures and the most beautiful tag with the best decorative edging. You certainly nailed this challenge and I'm so glad you enjoyed the journey of creating with white! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us at Our Creative Corner. Best of luck and we'd love to have you visit again next week!

  7. Sensational piece, Laura! Your white on white has so many wonderful textures and elements that you have put together so beautifully. I had to laugh that you reached for the Antique Linen and stopped yourself. You are stronger than I am. I had to use Antique Linen and even threw in a brush of Vintage Photo here and there - LOL. I told myself there are many shades of white. So great to have you joining in the fun with us this week at Our Creative Corner.

  8. This is gorgeous Laura! Well done for not resisting the temptation to add colour. Mind you, if I tried it I would get ink on unintentionally!!
