Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas - Week Six

Hi everyone!

It is week six of the 12 tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie style - halfway there and I am loving each tag!

This one is gorgeous - I loved Linda's country Christmas look...a really subtle selection of muted Christmas colours. This one did cause me some concern - I really wanted to use the machine stitching because I thought it looked beautiful. I had seen machine stitching before but always dismissed it as being something I could do - and this time? Well Linda, you finally made me do it!!!

I got the sewing machine out, took a deep breath and dived right in. I was so nervous that I would break my precious sewing machine, and I know I didn't do a great job - but at least I have now done it and can do it again, and again! And I really like the wonky stitching!!!

I chose some printed Christmas paper and some printed burlap effect paper and blended some Walnut Stain DI around the edges. These were then stitched with the sewing machine and then stuck onto the MDF tag.

I don't have the tree die cut that Linda used so I did the same as I had done with the reindeer...I found an image online and traced it...then cut that out and used that as a template for some card. After two lots of cutting out, some of the detail on the tree is a little different (and of course I reversed it to make it different) - but I like that it is unique....and it is a "little bit weird" according to my daughter "Lovely tag Mummy, but what on earth is wrong with that tree?"!!!

I liked the idea of using the Iced Spruce as Linda did for her tree because mine is a new, unused ink I am desperate to try it (any Iced Spruce based tags coming up Linda?!!) but I did want the tree to be slightly greener, so I chose to use the Evergreen Bough DI....I blended the ink over the tree, then stamped it with my favourite script stamp in Potting Soil Archival ink. I blended some Walnut Stain DI around the edges of the tree and then I covered it with DecoArt crackle glaze....keeping my fingers tightly crossed that it would crack....I love this crackle glaze but sometimes it will not work for me and I have never figured out why!

Luckily it did crack...and I dabbed some Walnut Stain DI over the tree then I wiped it with a baby wipe leaving lovely dark cracks.

I stuck the tree onto the tag along with a December calendar.

The number '25' was added using grungeboard numbers - I painted them with Nougat Fresco paint and then made them look a bit shabby with a smudge of Walnut Stain DI.

Some of my favourite coffee coloured crochet lace was added to the top of the tag

I had some gorgeous tartan ribbon that I tied into a bow, adding a twine bow on top. I finished this bow with a wooden cut snowflake shape.

So here is the Funkie Junkie Christmas tag number six! I hope you liked it and that you will come back to see the rest!

Why not come along and share in the fun of this challenge too?...all you have to do is make something inspired by each of the 12 tags and you could be in with a chance to win $50 to spend at the Funkie Junkie Boutique

Thanks so much for being here - See you all soon!

  4. This is really beautiful Laura! Your stitching looks great. Understand your feelings about the sewing, still not been brave myself. Not sure if I can remember how to thread my machine! Lol!

  6. This is a very beautiful and unique card. I can tell you put a lot of love and effort into it. I'm trying to find that color of fresco paint that you used. Love the machine stitching. I don't have a sewing machine so I'm always envious when I see cards that are machine stitched. It's a beautiful tag. Congratulations on getting your sewing machine out!
