La Belle Époque

Hello everyone! Here is a Vintage project - No surpises there!

I bought a frame many years ago and it was used for a servietten tecnique canvas for a while. I thought it looked a bit boring - it really needed a makeover. Here is a picture of what it used to look like (in the background with the duck picture!)

And here is the new frame - A Victorian inspired frame filled with treasures.

At the moment I am obsessed with Fresco Finish paints from PaperArtsy...I can't get enough of them! I seem to use them for everything and get such a huge amount of effects. They are so easy to use and well, totally amazing!

I covered the frame with Melange tissue paper and then added some stencilled words using the 'Art is' stencil with texture paste. I applied Old Gold Fresco paint in two opposite corners of the frame and covered with a very thin layer of Fresco Crackle glaze. When dry I painted over it with Vintage Lace Fresco paint and covered the rest of the frame with a wash of diluted Vintage Lace paint.

When this was dry I began to dry brush French Roast Fresco paint around the edges and corners, really emphasising the shading in the corners. I brushed the paint over the lettering to highlight it.

The flower die cuts were painted with Vintage lace fresco paint and the leaves were painted with Old gold and had crackle glaze applied and topped with a light coat of French Roast paint which was then wiped off with a baby wipe to leave the cracks dark.

The flowers and leaves were then stuck to the frame and when dry I applied Treasure Gold in White Fire - Oh, I LOVE this product!

I also rubbed some Treasure Gold over the lettering too.

The frame was painted with French Roast Fresco paint and the Fresco Finish crackle glaze was applied and dried and then covered with the Old Gold Fresco paint. I also added some Clear Rock Candy crackle paint and then applied some French Roast paint over the top to show the cracks more, before rubbing some Treasure Gold along the frame.

The centre of the frame was decorated with crochet lace edging and various bits of vintage ephemera that had been stained with Antique Linen DS or edged with Vintage Photo DI, some metal decorations and a fimo heart that was stamped and then rubbed with Treasure Gold.

So there is my vintage frame - certainly it looks very different now! I loved making it

                   See you soon!

  11. Wow, I have to say, I certainly prefer the make over!!! (Though I did like the candles which I think were done in Serviette technique too?) Anyway, your new frame looks amazing with all those wonderful stenciled and crackled effects. Great details like the crackle on the leaves!

  24. What a gorgeous makeover, Laura! I must try that particular combination with my FFs. Funnily enough, it is my first time with Treasure Gold (have used similar products before) and my friends recommended White Fire as a good one if I was only to buy one colour. I love what you have done here,
