Baby Steps

Welcome to another Our Creative Corner post!

Last month we launched the new Our Creative Corner and the response was AMAZING! We could never have guessed that so many people would take part - There were so many wonderful creations entered into the challenge - I don't know how I will ever be able to judge the winner! We do hope that people will come back and enjoy this new challenge hosted by the wonderfully talented Jenny.

Jenny is hosting a fantastic 'Recipe' challenge - for all the details just hop over to Our Creative Corner . Why not join us for this fabulous challenge - You could be our winner and appear as our Top Talent!

For my creation this month I decided to use a single page from a Kaisercraft Long Ticket album  - these are MDF and although they are intended to be used as a scrapbook album, I have used them to make hangings.

This creation started from finding some baby feet brads that I bought years ago and they had been put away and long forgotten. So I decided to use them - but I wanted to avoid the traditional baby pink, blue and yellow that so many baby themed creations have - don't get me wrong I am not criticising pastels, but I wanted something a little different here. We often forget to give new parents gifts and instead shower the baby with presents - here is a gift for a new parent and while they would no doubt love nursery pastels, I am sure some parents would love a gift that might just fit into their home decor!

First I covered the board with Antique Linen DP and when it was dry I stamped around the edges with a flourish stamp using Vintage Photo DI.

I then stamped a script stamp along the edges as well. After drying with a heat gun I sanded the edges down to give a shabby look to them.

The centre decoration was a wooden heart that I got from The Range (another £1 cheapie!) I painted this with Antique Linen DP and painted around the sides with French Roast Fresco paint. I applied the same flourish stamp again with Vintage Photo DI and wrapped some ivory crochet lace around it.

I covered a small square with Vintage Photo DI and then stamped over it with the flourish stamp using Antique Line DP. When it was dry I added the baby feet brads that were originally a very bright yellow they were transformed with Antique Linen DP and a few dabs of Vintage Photo DI.

The words "The first steps a baby takes are into your heart" is one of my favourite sayings from my early card making days...So I had to use that appropriate quote here. I got one of my alphabet stamps and stamped out the words with Walnut Stain DI and cut each word out and edged them with Vintage Photo DI.

Corrugated card provided a lovely textured backdrop to the heart and I blended some Walnut Stain DI over it to enhance the effect of the ridges.

Some wrinkle free distress effect hearts made with several brown Distress inks completed the hanging along with some rusty wire flourishes and a final strip of crochet lace.

For this 'Recipe' creation I have used -

List A - Lace
List B - Metal & Wood
List C - Paint and Ink

Hope you like my 'Recipe' creation! Please come on over to Our Creative Corner and see what other members of the Our Creative Corner design team have made  - There are some gorgeous creations to inspire you.
